The Adventure Begins


I was in rush. My watch shown at 2 p.m when i was still at the campus doing farewell program. My flight schedule was 5.15 p.m which means I should already arrived at the airport two hours before. Fortunately, I arrived at the airport one hour before the schedule. I was nervous, not because of the airplane. But, I was thinking about what will I be in the Phillipines for a month without my Mom, what will happen with me. I was overthinking about that.

Four hours took an airplane, I arrived at Ninoy Aquino airport, Manila, Phillipines. My first impression was 'seems like I still in Jakarta (haha)' because I find out there's no certain differences between Indonesia and Phillipines unless the road, the food, and the culture of course.

There I was, in University of Santo Tomas (UST) such a big campus I've ever seen. The most artistic campus I've ever seen (cause I've never seen others hehe). My very first impression of the campus was 'I have to walk wherever i want to go? seriously? T_T but it is okay, I can do my workout that I've never done it in my country haha'

It started. My adventure in the Phillipines begins in UST. Whole campus tour, school tour, and city tour. It will be the most memorable adventure has happened in my life.

TEACHING METHOD Sir Balance, that is the way I called my mentor who has long name Danny Osboken Balance. He is one of the English teachers in the UST Junior High School. He is an advisor of Drama club in the school. The first impression when I saw him in the classroom was totally different when we discussed out of the class. He is very expressive and uses loud voice when teaching, of course he is an advisor of Drama club. He always focuses on the students' attention. Get the students attention and make all of them see you are very important in teaching, he said. He always asks the student perspective in understanding the material before continuing main lesson material. He always asks the students whether they understand or not, what do they get from the lesson material. He believes that when he asked the students about what is in their mind, that is when the teaching and learning process happened. [Observation on Teacher]Observing My Mentor's Classroom II

On the first week, I did my classroom observation. The first day of my classroom observation full of excitement and nervousness at the same time. According to the agreement with my mentor Sir Danny O. Balance, I will have my observation at St. Dorothea section in the afternoon. Sir Balance is an English subject teacher and taught at grade 10 only, he is an advisor of the drama club at JHS as well. He is very kind, always put me in the first and asked me which I prefer, do I have something to be bothered when teaching so i can teaching well without any pressure and stressed. He is the best teacher and partner ever! Started at 1.25 pm I walked in St. Dorothea section, grade 10 through the back door.
